The Candle Care Guide

A great candle is half craft, half care. Six small habits will give you a cleaner, longer, more fragrant burn — every time.

01

Trim before every burn

Trim the cotton wick to ¼" each time you light it. It's the single most important thing you can do — it prevents soot, mushrooming, and an uneven flame. Use our brass trimmer or small scissors.

02

Let the first burn go long

On the very first light, let the wax pool melt all the way to the edge of the vessel — usually 2–3 hours. Wax has a memory; a full first melt prevents tunneling for the life of the candle.

03

Keep sessions under 4 hours

Burn no more than 4 hours at a time. Longer, and the wick can drift, the flame grows, and the scent dulls. Let it cool, trim, and relight.

04

Mind the draft

Burn away from vents, fans, and open windows. A steady flame throws scent evenly; a flickering one smokes and burns fast.

05

Stop at the last half-inch

Retire the candle when about ½" of wax remains to protect the vessel and your surface. Then give it a second life.

06

Reuse the vessel

Freeze the leftover wax, lift it out, and wash the ceramic with warm soapy water. It makes a lovely planter, brush cup, or catch-all.
